Efficient ball movement lifts Northeast women over Southeast, 87-55

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team remains undefeated after taking down Southeast Community College at the Cox Activities Center here last night. Final score was 87-55.

“Our ball movement was good tonight, but it was especially good in the first half,” said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. “We scored inside and outside, and we were very willing to make the extra pass. When we move it like that, we normally shoot it pretty well, and we did just that in the first half. Defensively, we put them to the line a bit more than we would have liked, but we took the three-pointer away and we did a good job on most of the possessions.”

As a team, Northeast recorded an impressive 14 blocked shots.

Irene Sanz led the Hawks in scoring with 15 points, while Sierra Bell and Kori Fischer tallied 13 each. Mykala Baylor had nine points and led rebounds with 12.

“Our team still has many areas that can improve, but I saw us play cleaner basketball tonight than what we had been playing,” Svehla said.

Southeast was led by Morgan Frauendorfer with 23 points.

Northeast (8-0) will return to action on Tuesday, November 28, when they travel to Seward to face Concordia University JV at 7 p.m.
