Women's soccer gives up late goal to Iowa Western

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - Despite a strong defense, the Northeast Community College women’s soccer team gave up a late goal to Iowa Western Community College here last night. Final score was 1-0.

The Reivers scored their lone goal with 17 minutes left in the game.

“We really struggled on offense tonight,” said Chad Miller, Hawks coach. “Much credit goes to Iowa Western’s defense, but we struggled going forward. We started off the game keeping them on their half of the field, but once they came across, it was extremely tough to go back. Even if we did get the ball on their half of the field, we couldn’t find the space to get a shot off.”

Iowa Western recorded 15 shots on goal to Northeast’s zero. Alexis Wemhoff had 14 saves for the Hawks.

“Alexis had an amazing game in the goal,” Miller said. “The positive we can take away from this match is that our defense is playing better than it has all year. We can build off of that and get back to scoring.”

Northeast (10-5-1) will host Hawkeye Community College on Saturday, October 21, at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. Game time is 1 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 3 p.m.
