Hawks volleyball finishes 1-3 at Central Tournament

COLUMBUS, NE - After dropping two games on the first day of the Central Community College tournament, the Northeast Community College volleyball team picked up one win and one loss on the tournament's final day here Saturday.

The Hawks fell to Fort Scott Community College in five sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 12-25, 13-15) and defeated Kansas City Kansas Community College in five sets (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 27-25, 15-11).

In the Fort Scott loss, Macy Stewart recorded 14 skills, while Taylor Lammers had 12; Samantha Brester, 12; and Monique Schafer, ten. Stewart put up two solo blocks, while Brester had four assist blocks and Elizabeth Selting had three assist blocks. Schafer, Nelson, Delaney Belt, and Taylor Lammers tallied one ace serve each. Peyton Roach led digs with 32, while Schafer recorded 21, and Nelson and Belt had 17 each. Nelson recorded 47 assists.

In the win against Kansas City Kansas, Stewart led kills with 23, while Brester had 13 and also recorded two blocks. Stewart and Schafer had two ace serves each. Roach finished with 24 digs; Schafer, 20; Nelson, 19; Stewart, 15. Nelson totaled 53 assists.

Northeast (13-12) will host North Platte Community College on Tuesday in the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. Game time is 7 p.m.
