Hawks volleyball drops two games on first day of Central Tournament

COLUMBUS, NE - The Northeast Community College volleyball team struggled on the first day of the Central Community College tournament here Friday. They fell to Cowley County Community College in three sets (25-14, 25-23, 25-11) and were unable to overcome Bismarck State College in five sets, winning the first and fourth (26-24, 25-21) and dropping the second, third and fifth (25-23, 25-19, 15-11).

In the match against Cowley, Monique Schafer recorded eight kills, while Taylor Lammers and Elizabeth Selting had six each. Samantha Brester, Lammers and Savannah Nelson had one block each, while Nelson and Macy Stewart had two ace serves. Peyton Roach led digs with 11, while Schafer had ten. Nelson tallied 24 assists.

In the five-set game versus Bismarck State, Schafer and Brester each had 13 kills, while Lammers had 12. Brester put up four blocks; Schafer, three; Lammers, two. Schafer also led ace serves with three, while Stewart and Lammers had two each. Schafer had 33 digs and Roach recorded 26. Nelson had 48 assists.

Northeast is now 12-11.

The Central tournament continues tomorrow, with the Hawks squaring off against Fort Scott Community College at 3 p.m. and Kansas City Kansas Community College at 5 p.m.
