Hawks women's soccer falls to Iowa Central, 2-0

NORFOLK, NE - A strong defense gave Iowa Central Community College a win over the Northeast Community College women’s soccer team here yesterday. The Tritons defeated the Hawks, 2-0.

Northeast Coach Chad Miller said that while his team controlled the majority of the possession in the first half, they were unable to find opportunities. The Tritons scored their first goal 18 minutes into the first half.

Ten minutes into the second half, Iowa Central got another breakaway and scored their second goal.

Miller said his team played well overall. “In the second half, I felt we controlled play. We had the ball on their half of the field the majority of the time, but their defense did a nice job of holding up. We had some great shots, and their keeper made some great saves.”

Northeast outshot Iowa Center 19 to six, and also had more shots on goal, tallying nine to the Tritons’ four. Alexis Wemhoff had two saves for the Hawks.

“It just wasn’t our night tonight,” Miller said. “We had great chances and did some great things. We just couldn’t get the ball to roll in for us. We gave them two good breaks, and they took advantage. Tonight was their night.”

Northeast (7-2) will host two teams this weekend. On Saturday, the Hawks face Scott Community College at 2 p.m., following the men’s game, which is set for 12 p.m. On Sunday, Northeast will play Western Nebraska Community College at 12 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 2 p.m. All matches will be played at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
