Seigle said it was a disappointing loss.

“We are better than we showed today. We let one mistake become several mistakes and a great team like Barton is going to punish you. We started playing not to make mistakes instead of with confidence in our own abilities to create opportunities.”

The Cougars, who led at halftime 3-0, outshot Northeast 13-4. The Hawk’s Massimiliano Simonazzi had seven saves while Barton’s Luciano Trasolini had three.

“We are a young team, but we must learn from these mistakes and get better,” Seigle said. “I still believe in this team and the possibilities for this season, but (Tuesday’s match) needs to be a wake-up call that we need to work harder.”

The Hawks travel to Columbus on Friday to face Central Community College at 4 p.m.
