ANAHEIM, CA - Four business students of the Northeast Community College Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Club earned honors at the organization’s National Leadership Conference held here recently.
They were among more than 1,800 of America’s best and brightest college students who traveled to southern California to establish their own Legacy of Leadership as they competed for the opportunity to win more than $95,000 in cash awards during the conference. Participants enhanced their business skills, expanded their networks, and participated in 60 business and business-related competitive events.
Representing Northeast, the team of Amanda Prosser, Loup City, Chelsea Wortmann, Crofton, and Artur Rodrigues, Barrio Barcelona Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil, placed 5th in Social Media. In the competition, students created a social media campaign for a new business using at least three social media platforms.
Emma Wiebelhaus, Fordyce, finished 10th in Administrative Technology. This competition evaluates participants’ knowledge and application in basic computer concepts, document formatting and rules, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proofreading and word processing applications. This event also includes a production of all business forms, including: letters, memorandums, tables, reports, statistical reports, materials from rough draft and unarranged copy.
Nebraska PBL members captured a best-ever nine first places at the National Leadership Conference and the state chapter earned a record-setting 54 Top Ten finishes. As a state, only the Florida State Chapter fared better than Nebraska PBL in 2017. In addition, a number of the members earned a cash prize along with their respective placing.
Out of the 54 national awards won by its members and chapters, Nebraska PBL had nine first place honors.
The awards were part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational keynotes on a broad range of business topics.
Phi Beta Lambda focuses on developing leadership, communication and team skills in its members as well as giving members an opportunity to meet and network with other PBL members at the local, state and national levels. PBL places an emphasis on helping students transition to the business world. There are approximately 11,000 PBL members on college campuses across the country.
