South Sioux City standout signs to play basketball at Northeast

NORFOLK - A standout from South Sioux City High School will join the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team this fall. Kori Fischer, South Sioux City, has signed to play basketball for the Hawks in 2017-18.

Fischer, a 5’10” guard, helped lead the South Sioux City Cardinals to a 26-2 record and the 2017 Class B state championship. She was the team’s leading scorer at 14 points per game and also averages 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Fischer also shoots 37 percent from the three-point line.

She was named to the All-State Second Team and was also selected to play in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Game.

“Kori had a very good senior season,” said Matt Svehla, Northeast coach. “She really fits what many college programs are looking for on the perimeter and that is great length and mobility. She moves very well and can shoot the three-pointer.”

Svehla also noted that Fischer originates from a tradition-rich high school program. “South Sioux City girls’ basketball has been one of the most successful, storied programs in our state. Kori’s skills and character will fit very well in our program.”

Fischer will join Jade Blackburn, Surrey, United Kingdom, Lauren Hunstad, Parker, SD, Bailey Nuzum, Papillion, and Tegan Pompa, Elgin, IL, who also signed recently with the Hawks.
