Decisions Driven by Data: Utilize the Power of Your Data to Make Informed Decisions

In the world of agriculture, we are surrounded by data. It is collected by scouting fields, paper records, yield and moisture maps, as-applied maps, areal imagery, grid sampling, subscription services and many other means. Regardless of the methods of collection, producers of today have access to a mountain of data. The challenge: How does one take the large volume of data, collected over multiple years, to make the decisions for the operation?

In this session, we will help attendees to understand how to utilize data to drive their decision process to make objective decisions. By making decisions based on collected data, producers will become more attune to the needs of their crops and livestock.

Topics for this session will include:
 How to spread the cost of data over multiple years
 How to utilize your data to help make objective decisions
 Sources of data that make sizable impact in the bottom line
 How to determine the primary factor(s) that influence profit on your operation
 How to organize your data to be more easily used in the decision making process
 Tools available to analyze operational data and help in the decision making process
 Services available to help with data driven decision making
 Incorporating multi-year data into the decision process

This class will be offered via ITV from Norfolk to the other locations.

Drone Operations

With the explosion of unmanned aircraft, particularly multi-rotor UAS (drones), there is a growing need for operators to have a better understanding of applicable regulations, flight maneuvers, mission planning and safe operations in controlled airspace. The two-day Drone Operations course will accomplish these goals and help the attendee to understand the rules of flying a UAS, as established by the FAA. It will also help them to understand the proper protocol and procedures for flying various drone missions through hands-on flight training. Ultimately, this course will help to prepare the student for the successful completion of the FAA Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot certification process. This course is designed for those who want to fly drones for commercial purposes, but also includes useful rules and information for the drone hobbyist. Hands-on flight training using the DJI fleet of drones owned and insured by Northeast Community College is included. Test Prep textbook is included in the course cost.

Precision Agriculture Implementation: The Right Way for You

For over 30 years, advances in management practices and technology has continued to increase yield potential, resource management, and profitability margins. Compile that with increasing land and input costs, and the advent of environmental issues and regulations, one can appreciate any method that promotes the possibility of increased revenue, better decision making, record keeping, and reporting.

Precision Agriculture has grown over the same period. It reaches into every area of agriculture, row crops, livestock (both confinement and range production), orchards, edible crops, and organics. Growing from “simple” yield and moisture monitoring to variable rate and multi hybrid seeding, variable rate fertility, variable rate irrigation, robotic weeding, spot spraying by weed species, livestock health and vitals monitoring, a myriad of remote sensing options, autonomous vehicles, and sensors and meters to monitor and control virtually any aspect of the operation imaginable.

With all the options available, the question is, how does one implement a Precision Agriculture management practice that is right for the operation? Knowing that there is not a one-size-fits-all solution, it behooves each operator to know the options available and the questions to ask to come to a conclusion that fits both the operator and the operation.
Come join us for training on Precision Agriculture evaluation to learn to determine what management practices are right for you and your operation.

Topics and benefits covered will include:
 What is Precision Agriculture
 The impacts of Precision Agriculture on an operation
 What questions to ask when determining the right match for your operation
 Steps to implement the right plan
 New equipment vs. modifying current equipment

This class will be offered via ITV from Norfolk to the other locations.

Variable Rate Irrigation: Possibly the Best Money You Can Spend

With the concern surrounding our water resources in the recent years, there is more and more attention being given to the most critical resource on the planet: Water. The purpose of this offering is to increase the understanding and realization that utilizing Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) helps address the concerns of our agriculture communities.

With the utilization of VRI, producers can make steps to address these concerns. Preserving resources by reducing the total amount of water applied. Increasing yield potential by getting the inches to those acres that need them the most. Increasing plant health in areas that tend to get wet feet. The impact can be vast.

Come join us for training on a Precision Agriculture technology that can help to address natural resources concerns, while having a direct positive impact to your bottom line.

Topics and benefits covered will include:
 Reduced water usage
 Increased overall crop health
 Reduced movement of nitrates through the soil due to reduced puddling during irrigation
 Reduce the number of rounds the pivots make during a season
 Reduce variability in crop health across the field
 Utilization of Soil Moisture Probes
 Use and statutes regarding water meter installation
