Degrees and Programs

By choosing the Music Performance concentration, you'll learn the skills and background needed for a career in professional music, including the areas of vocal and instrumental performance, arranging, conducting, composition, and many others. You'll have plenty of opportunities to perform in front of an audience by participating in our vocal and instrumental performance groups. The touring groups perform at over 30 high schools. We also host a regional jazz competition every year. All music concentrations will learn computerized composition. Music lessons are available on a variety of instruments, as well as voice. Scholarships are a available for participation in music as well.

When you successfully complete the Music Performance concentration, you may choose to seek employment in many music-related occupations or transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year institution. Career opportunities in professional music include vocal and instrumental performance, arranging, conducting, composition, and many others. Choirs, bands, clubs and restaurants, musical theaters, and the recording industry are among the employment options in this field.

Career Information

Finding positions in the music industry requires a combination of talent, training, connections, and some luck. Perseverance is required. Develop competencies in business management, computers, marketing, or other areas to broaden the range of employment possibilities. Most performers have other careers.
