NORFOLK - The Northeast Community College softball team came up short against Iowa Western Community College here Saturday, dropping two games, 18-1 and 7-3.

Despite the losses, Hawks Coach Iris Woodhead said she was happy with her team’s level of competition. “We had two bad innings in the first game where errors led to multiple runs. However, at the plate we looked very good against a pitcher that had no-hit us earlier this year.”

Amy Rogers had the lone RBI of the game for Northeast in the third inning. Rogers and Kianna Garza had one double each.

“Game two was fantastic,” said Woodhead. “Teanne (Edens) was dialed in and pitched a wonderful game against a very good hitting team. Again, errors led to multiple runs and that hurt us.”

Rogers went 2-for-3 in game two, and Garza went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Edens (1-for-3) tallied two RBIs, a home run and a sacrifice fly.

Northeast (10-15) will host North Platte Community College in a doubleheader tomorrow at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk. Game times are 2 and 4 p.m.
