Northeast in South Sioux City to host youth drone camp

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE - Kids will have the opportunity to take to the skies and become junior drone pilots at a new camp being offered this summer at the Northeast Community College extended campus in South Sioux City.

Drone Camp will meet Monday through Friday, July 9-13, at the South Sioux City extended campus, 1001 College Way. Spots are still available for the afternoon session, which meets 1-5 p.m. and is suitable for children ages 9 to 14.

In this hands-on learning experience, participants will build their own drones to keep, learn how to fly them and earn their Junior Pilot Wings.

Activities include a basic overview of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations; drone simulators, including a drone racing simulator participants can download to their own computers; and a fast-paced search and rescue mission where participants must use maps, drones and teamwork to deliver items. Participants will also learn about the components of a drone and compete in a race to assemble one of the top-selling drones in the world.

Cost of the camp is $150, plus fees.
