Northeast softball team opens postseason play this weekend

NORFOLK, NE – The Northeast Community College softball team will open postseason play in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region XI-A Tournament this weekend on the campus of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Boone, IA.

Three teams (seeds 1, 4, and 7), will play in the Region XI-A Tournament, while four other teams (seeds 2, 3, 5, and 6) will be in the Region XI-B Tournament. Assignments were based on Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) standings. 

The #7 Northeast Hawks (18-32, 4-20 in the ICCAC) will face #4 Iowa Lakes Community College (22-26 overall, 11-13 in the ICCAC) in the tournament’s first game on Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. The winner will immediately face #1 DMACC (40-0 overall, and 22-0 in the ICCAC) at 4 p.m. that afternoon.

On Saturday, the loser of game one will face the loser of game two at 12 p.m., followed by the winner of game two taking on the winner of game three at 2 p.m. If the winner of game two is also is victorious on Saturday, it will advance to host the winner of Region 13 in the District H Championship game. Should the loser of game three win game four on Saturday, a fifth game between the winner and loser of game four will be played on Sunday, May 6, at 12 p.m.

The Region XI-B Tournament, to be played at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA, will feature #2 Kirkwood, #3 Iowa Central, #5 North Iowa Area Community College, and #6 Ellsworth Community College.
