NORFOLK, NE – Northeast Community College graduates continue to find success by either obtaining employment in the workforce or continuing their education. Northeast’s latest Graduate Report confirms that ninety-eight percent of 2017 graduates either found jobs or continued their education.
Of the graduates who found employment following graduation, eighty-two percent gained occupations in their field of study. The report also indicates that eighty-eight percent of the graduates remained in Nebraska to work; fifty-seven percent stayed in Northeast’s 20 county service region.
Terri Heggemeyer, director of Career Services at Northeast, presented the report to the College Board of Governors Thursday during its regular monthly meeting. She said the ninety-eight percent success rate of Northeast graduates is nearly perfect.
“We have students who are dedicated and willing to work hard to achieve their goals. We have caring and supportive employees who encourage students to learn, explore and grow. When students, faculty and staff join forces, the educational experience is one that really allows graduates to leave with a professional foundation in order to make a difference in their lives and communities.”
In a 2017 survey of known employers who have hired Northeast Community College graduates, ninety-four percent said they would consider hiring Northeast graduates in the future, and ninety-five percent rated Northeast graduates as either excellent or good in their given career program.
Dr. Michael Chipps, president, said the 2017 Graduate Report is evidence of the College’s strategic plan to prepare a skilled workforce for northeast Nebraska and beyond.

It is so satisfying to see how our graduates excel when they complete their work at Northeast and then utilize the knowledge and skills acquired from this great educational journey.”
Chipps said, “Each May, hundreds of students are recognized during commencement ceremonies, signaling to all that these men and women have completed their educational goals at Northeast. They are now prepared to become part of America’s great workforce or continue to seek additional education at both Northeast and at senior institutions of higher learning. The 2017 Northeast Community College Graduate Report illustrates the many success stories of our graduates.”
Heggemeyer and Amy Koehler, Career Services administrative assistant, were again commended by the Board of Governors for their success in achieving a ninety-seven percent collection rate from the 830 graduates from last year.
In addition to the graduate report, the Northeast Community College Career Services Office offers a variety of services to prepare students for today’s workforce. This includes providing one-on-one advisement and personal attention to students as they look for employment; posts jobs daily to the Northeast on-line job board; assists with writing and completing resumes´, cover letters, and applications, and offers lifetime employment assistance to alumni, among others.
