Visiting Writers Series continues with Brummels and Marcellus

NORFOLK, NE - Two writers will read from their works at an upcoming installment of the Visiting Writers Series at Northeast Community College. Lin Marshall Brummels, Winside, and Stephanie A. Marcellus, Wayne, will read from their works on Wednesday, April 18, at 4 p.m. at Hawks Landing in the Northeast Student Center.

Brummels is a licensed Nebraska mental health practitioner and certified professional counselor, and she has worked at the Wayne State College Counseling Center for many years. She has published poetry in journals, anthologies, a collaborative poetry project and elsewhere. Her essay, “Civilization,” was published in Ankle High and Knee Deep. Her poetry chapbook, Hard Times, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2015 and won the 2016 Nebraska Book Award for chapbooks. Brummels’ second chapbook, Cottonwood Strong, will be released by Finishing Line Press in 2018.

Brummels is the mother of two grown children, Zeke and Liz.

Marcellus is an associate professor of English at Wayne State College. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Colorado State University and a PhD in nineteenth century British literature from the University of South Dakota. Her work has appeared recently in Plainsongs, Three Drops from a Cauldron, Alligator Juniper and elsewhere. Her chapbook, What is Left Behind: Garden Elegies, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2017.

Marcellus resides in Wayne with her husband, Shawn, and their four cats.

This is the final Visiting Writers Series event for the spring semester.
