Hawks softball splits with Iowa Lakes

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College softball team collected their first region win here yesterday when they split a doubleheader with Iowa Lakes Community College. The Hawks won the first game, 4-2, and dropped the nightcap, 16-9.

In game one, Savannah Robertson went 3-for-3 with two runs. Alayna Allen was 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored. Shyanne Sutton finished 2-for-3 with a run. Allen (4-2) earned the win and tallied nine strikeouts.

“It was a great team effort game one,” said Iris Woodhead, Hawks coach. “Alayna pitched a spectacular first game leading to our first region win. I thought we played well in game two. We just were not able to stop the bleeding in the fourth and seventh innings.”

The Lakers scored eight runs in the fourth and five in the seventh in their game two win.

Teanne Edens scored a home run for the Hawks in the second game. Robertson went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Jade Long was 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI, two base on balls and a hit by pitch. Mariah Jensen was 3-for-4 with two RBIs; Sutton, 2-for-3 with two runs and a base on ball.

Northeast (12-14 overall, 1-3 in region) will face Ellsworth Community College in another region matchup on Saturday in Austin, MN. Game times in the doubleheader are 6 and 8 p.m.
