Northeast softball prevails over Concordia JV

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College softball team earned a sweep over Concordia University JV here yesterday, 12-0 and 11-1.

Hawks Coach Iris Woodhead said her team played well all-around.

“They were great games, and we had great weather. Our hitters looked great at the plate. I really liked to see the adjustments we made with Concordia’s pitching.”

In the first game, Savannah Robertson went 3-for-4 with a run, triple and four RBIs. Alayna Allen was 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and a base on ball. Tera Paczosa finished 2-for-3 with a run, double and three RBIs. Rosario Garcia (2-for-3) had two runs and an RBI. Allen pitched four innings and had the win, ending with two hits allows, nine strikeouts and three walks.

In the second game, Emily Sherstone was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double; Allen, 2-for-3 with three runs, a double and four RBIs; Paczosa, 3-for-3 with a run, home run and three RBIs. Shyanne Sutton went 2-for-3 with two runs, a home run and an RBI. Moriah Payton pitched five innings and had the win with seven hits allowed and six strikeouts in five innings.

“Alayna, Tera and Moriah all pitched really well collectively,” Woodhead said. “We’ve spent some time working on our mentality, and it showed today. I’m excited for the girls with the level they were able to play. It was fun to watch, and we are looking to only build off of it.”

Northeast (8-10) will host North Platte Community College in a doubleheader on Sunday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
