“I loved our energy in the first game; we came out ready to fight,” said Iris Woodhead, Hawks coach. “Collectively, we were all there. It was wonderful to see each and every person there ready to play.”
Northeast outhit the Panthers 15-8 in the game one victory. Emily Sherstone went 2-for-4 with five runs, two RBIs, a double and a base-on-ball. Savannah Robertson (4-for-4) had two runs, two RBIs, a double and a base-on-ball. Jade Long finished 2-for-4 with a run and five RBIs; Alayna Allen (2-for-4), with two RBIs and a double; Tera Paczosa (2-for-4), two runs and a double. Chandler Hehnke (2-3) had the win.
In game two, Woodhead said her team lost focus.
“We weren’t willing to chest up some balls, and we were looking for someone else to make plays for us. There aren’t many team that can win with seven errors.”
Game two saw Sherstone going 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and a base-on-ball. Robertson went 2-for-4; Hehnke, 2-for-3. Allen (0-1) took the loss. The Hawks had seven hits to the Panthers’ eight.
“We need to work on keeping our energy and focus in game two,” Woodhead said. “We will always play doubleheaders, so we can not only compete for one game. We need all players to be invested in the team and focused for both games.”
The Hawks (4-6) will host their home opener against Central Community College on Tuesday, March 13. Games will be played at 5 and 7 p.m. at the softball complex at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
