Northeast veterinary technology students receive coats and pins at ceremony

NORFOLK, NE - Students enrolled in Northeast Community College’s veterinary technology program received their coats and pins at a special ceremony held recently in Norfolk.

Members of the class of 2018 received their veterinary technician’s pins. Members of the Class of 2019 were awarded a monogrammed white coat to mark their formal acceptance into the program.

Dr. Mike Cooper, veterinary technology program director, opened the ceremony followed by comments from Lyle Kathol, vice president of educational services. Josh Schlote, veterinary technology instructor, administered the Vet Tech’s oath to the students. Veterinary Technician Instructor Dr. Amanda Hafer and sophomore class representatives Nicole Beed, Chambers, and Kelsie Smith, Bellevue, also spoke at the ceremony.

Kathol remarked on the significance of the ceremony for the students.

“Tonight you’ll take your first formal step toward your veterinary technician career by taking an oath to serve in a career field that will be challenging. This is the first step in a journey that will be the most fantastic journey you will ever take. The white coat you are donned with this evening indicates your acceptance of another level of responsibility and dedication. Wear it with pride and never forget this first step.”

Hafer praised the dedication and patience she witnessed in her veterinary technician students this year.

“All of these students have demonstrated a large amount of patience with our panel of patients, and that’s difficult. To those of you who are going on your internships, I want you to continue to demonstrate this patience. Be proud of who you are and what you are becoming if you’re not there yet. Take pride in your accomplishments made here because it hasn’t been easy.”

“As for our incoming students who receive their coats tonight, you will have many late nights ahead. You’ll learn how important it is to be part of a team, to offer help to others and to ask for help when you need it. You will grow as a person in this program.”

Friends, family members and supporters of the students attended the ceremony.

In-state students who received their white coats at the ceremony included:

Kelley Bode, Burwell; Sarah Bower, Columbus; Alexis Domsch, Norfolk; Morgan Eisenhauer, Beemer; Megan Fink, Randolph; Halie Fleecs, Sutherland; Brittany McConnell, Neligh; Terri Molt, Albion; Kristin Weeder, Lindsay; and Kiley Wiedeman, Stanton.

Out-of-state students receiving white coats were Rachel Eisenbraun, Rapid City, SD, and Cassie Jensen, Oldham, SD.

These sophomore students were pinned at the ceremony: Jaci Alexander, Wayne; Nicole Beed, Chambers; Rachel Betke, Crete; Kimberly Borchert, Lincoln; Marisa Jenkins, Pierce; Kennadi Keezer, Grand Island; Makaleigh Nilson, Springview; Morgan Olsen, Lyons; Kelsie Smith, Bellevue; and Makayla Wiese, O’Neill.
