Northeast men's basketball nets win over Highland before break

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College men's basketball team is now 11-6 heading into the holiday break after defeating Highland Community College (KS) here Saturday. Final score was 81-73.

The Scotties took an eight-point lead early in the first half, but the Hawks were able to cut the lead to one by halftime.

After the half, Northeast turned up their defense, which caused Highland to shoot 38 percent from the field. The Hawks converted late in the second half to take their largest lead of nine before finishing the game on a run.

Four Hawks scored in double figures. Steve Wooten led the way with 27 points, nine boards and two steals. Moses Byekwaso added 18 points and two rebounds, while Allen Anderson had 14 points and four assists. Melkisedek Moreaux finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds, plus four blocks.

The Hawks will be back in action after the break when they take on Little Priest Tribal College on Wednesday, January 10, at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. Game time is 7 p.m., following the women's game, which is set for 5 p.m.
