Women's basketball wraps up Hawks Classic with win over DMACC

NORFOLK, NE - Despite a weak second half, the Northeast Community College women's basketball team defeated Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) here Saturday on the final day of the Hawks Classic. Final score was 72-52.

The Hawks had a strong showing in the first half, with Mykala Baylor and Judit Valls netting ten points each.

"Mykala and Judit were really active on the inside, and our guards did a good job of finding them," said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. "We had a nice lead at the half, but our second half of action was not clean basketball. We committed too many turnovers and didn't secure rebounds. It is nice to be undefeated, but we must be more consistent."

Baylor led the Hawks in scoring, totaling 15 points and eight rebounds. Valls finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Sierra Bell tallied eleven points, three rebounds and six assists.

Northeast (5-0) will return to action on Monday when they face Morningside College JV at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. Game time is 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m.
