Hawks volleyball advances to nationals with Region XI-A win

IOWA FALLS, IA - The Northeast Community College volleyball team has earned a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II championship for the second year in a row after defeating Kirkwood Community College at the Region XI-A championship match here yesterday. The Hawks beat the Eagles in five sets (25-11, 19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-7).

"The girls did a great job," said Amanda Schultze, Northeast coach. "We played three really strong sets, one of those being the fifth, which was very crucial. Offensively, we moved well together, and we stayed on our toes on defense. I am very proud of this group, as they have worked very hard for this win."

Macy Stewart led the Hawks in kills with 17, while Monique Schafer had 14, and Samantha Brester, nine. Brester recorded three blocks and Taylor Lammers had two. Savannah Nelson, Peyton Roach and Stewart all tallied one ace serve each. Digs were led by Schafer and Roach with 31 and 25, respectively. Nelson had 48 assists.

The NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship will be held November 16-18 in Charleston, WV. The brackets are to be announced.
