Hawks defeat York JV 3-0 in windy conditions

by amandab  10/17/2017 8:19:10 AM --  YORK, NE - Despite windy conditions, the Northeast Community College men’s soccer team earned a win over York College JV here yesterday. Final score was 3-0.

Northeast’s Victor Galterio, with an assist from Daniel Isaza, scored approximately three minutes into the match with a shot from 20 yards out. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Josh Crim, with an assist from Sebastian Delfin Besores, brought the halftime score to 2-0.

In the second half, with ten minutes remaining, Cameron Krueger scored on a cross from Crim to finish the game at 3-0.

Coach Chad Miller said his team struggled with the windy conditions, especially in the first half.

“It was very windy, and even though we had the wind at our backs, it made it very difficult to control the ball. In the second half, we wanted to control possession more, and that is what we did. We were much more patient on the ball and used our space better. We created some great opportunities, and their goalie made some great saves to keep the game close.”

Northeast had six shots on goal to York’s two. Massimiliano Simonazzi recorded two saves for the Hawks.

“I was happy with how we could change our play and be better in the second half,” Miller said. “How we finish games will be important as we finish out the season.”

The Hawks (5-10-1) will travel to Marshalltown, IA, today to face Marshalltown Community College at 3 p.m.
