Northeast women's soccer comes up short against Iowa Lakes, 2-1

by amandab  10/5/2017 8:43:53 AM --  NORFOLK, NE - Northeast Community College Women’s Soccer Coach Chad Miller said that despite an evenly matched game against Iowa Lakes Community College here yesterday, his team was outplayed. The Hawks fell to the Lakers, 2-1.

Early in the first half, Iowa Lakes’ forward made a run across the Hawks’ defense to put the Lakers on the board. Score at halftime was 1-0.

About ten minutes into the second half, Northeast’s Madison Wendland sprinted to a free ball and took a shot that went over the goalie’s head and into the net to even the score. Nearly ten minutes later, the Lakers found a breakaway to end the game at 2-1.

“Both teams seemed evenly matched, but tonight we got outplayed,” Miller said. “I feel we have been a little off our game lately, and it is affecting us. The season is long and grueling, and I feel it is catching up to us. But we have to see the light at the end of the tunnel and refocus on what our goal is. This is a great team just going through a rough patch. I believe we were fight our way out of it and hopefully finish strong.”

The Hawks and Lakers had even shots at 15 each. Iowa Lakes recorded ten shots on goal to Northeast’s nine. Alexis Wemhoff had eight saves for the Hawks.

Northeast (9-4-1) will host North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. The game, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., will now be played at 3 p.m. The men’s game will follow at 5 p.m.
