Northeast men's soccer comes up short against Iowa Central

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in their loss to Iowa Central Community College here yesterday. Final score was 2-1.

The Tritons scored late in the first half and netted another goal early in the second half to bring the score to 2-0.

About 20 minutes later, the Hawks’ Victor Galterio received a pass from Cale Frahm and scored on a long shot. The game ended 2-1.

Massimiliano Simonazzi had six saves for the Hawks. Northeast outshot Iowa Central nine to eight.

“This is what I call a ‘good loss,’” said Chad Miller, Hawks coach. “I felt we were always one pass away from getting a goal or at least a chance at a goal. So many times we were close but just came up short. One thing I was proud of was how our boys left it all out on the field. Seeing them lie on the field after (the game), I could see that they gave it everything they had. That’s heart.”

Northeast (3-5) will host Scott Community College on Saturday at 12 p.m., with the women’s game to follow at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Hawks will face Western Nebraska Community College at home at 2 p.m., following the women’s game, which is set for 12 p.m. All matches will be played at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
