Northeast men's soccer earns first win of season against Iowa Lakes

SPENCER, IA - The Northeast Community College men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season here over the weekend, defeating Iowa Lakes Community College, 3-2.

The Lakers scored on a penalty kick about halfway through the first half. Ten minutes later, the Hawks' Tiago Cunha Da Costa evened the score, which remained 1-1 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Anthony Kosch received a ball from Cale Frahm and put Northeast up 2-1. The Lakers were able to tie the score again, but Sebastian Delfin Besores answered by dribbling in and scoring an unassisted goal.

"The boys played a great game," said Chad Miller, Hawks coach. "They were patient and used space very well, so they found themselves in great positions to create opportunities. We took advantage of those and were able to get the win."

Massimiliano Simonazzi had seven saves for Northeast, and both teams had seven shots on goal.

The Hawks (1-4) will return to action tomorrow when they host York College JV at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. Game time is 7 p.m.
