Hawks women's soccer defeats Iowa Lakes over weekend

SPENCER, IA - The Northeast Community College women's soccer team defeated Iowa Lakes Community College 2-0 here Saturday, bringing the Hawks' record to 5-1.

"Our girls possessed really well," said Chad Miller, Northeast coach. "We were patient on the ball, but I felt we rushed the attack a couple times. We had some great opportunities to get goals, but once again did not take advantage of them."

Miller said he did not feel comfortable with a one-goal lead over the Lakers.

"Lakes has some great playmakers who created chances for them. Our defense did very well bottling those up. It wasn't until the second goal where I felt a little more relaxed. We got the win and that is what matters."

Alexis Wemhoff had six saves for the Hawks. Northeast tallied 13 shots-on-goal to the Lakers' six.

Northeast (5-1) will travel to Independence, MO, on Wednesday to face Metropolitan Community College - Blue River in a 3 p.m. match.
