Women's soccer team defeats Western

SCOTTSBLUFF, NE – The Northeast Community College women’s soccer wrapped up a weekend road trip Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday.

The two teams played a scoreless first half. Hailey Curry was assisted by Valentina Haboush in scoring the Hawk’s first goal while Katie Martindale, with an assist from Ellie Gess, picked up the second.

“Our girls played another good game, said Chad Miller, Northeast coach. “I felt we moved the ball well and created great opportunities in the first half but just couldn't find the net.”

Miller said the Hawks started slow in the second half.

“But once we got back into our rhythm we were making things happen again. Hailey got us on the board first 10 minutes in with a nice pass from Valentina. Katie followed with another goal 10 minutes later to put us up 2-0.”

Western was able to get on the board with its lone goal at the 82-minute mark.

Alexis Wemhoff recorded seven saves for the Hawks. Northeast recorded 16 goals to Western’s eight.

Miller said, “The girls have really played great. It has been a tough road trip these last two weeks but our girls have played well!”

On Saturday, Northeast will travel to Spencer, IA, to face Iowa Lakes Community College at 4 p.m.
