Hawks give up two second half goals in loss to Central

COLUMBUS, NE - The Northeast Community College men's soccer team gave up two second half goals in their 2-0 loss to Central Community College here Friday. Coach Doug Seigle said both teams created opportunities to score in the evenly played, physical match.

"I thought we gave up a soft goal midway through the second half and had to take some chances late in the game to tie it up. Unfortunately, we got countered on late in the game and gave up a second goal."

Central outshot Northeast nine to six and also had more shots on goal, seven to Northeast's three. Massimiliano Simonazzi recorded four saves for the Hawks, while Francisco Nuno had one.

"I think some of our players got intimidated by some of the physical play, which led to us losing many of the 50/50 balls," Seigle said. "We came out with several players banged up and will need a few days to get healthy, but we will get back to work next week."

The Hawks (0-2) will travel to Sterling, CO, on Friday, September 1, to face Northeastern Junior College in a 2 p.m. game.
