Northeast men's and women's soccer prepare for upcoming season

NORFOLK - As the Northeast Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams prepare for their third and second seasons, respectively, coaches Doug Seigle and Chad Miller describe their feelings the same way: “extremely excited.” The Northeast soccer teams begin their seasons next Tuesday when they both face Barton Community College.

Seigle, men’s coach, said his team returns with a strong group of seven returning players mixed with seventeen freshmen.

Daniel Isaza, Bogota, Colombia, and Aaron Wilken, Norfolk, have been named team captains. Last season Isaza earned Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All Conference first team honors, while Wilken was named to the ICCAC Region XI Men’s All-Tournament team.

“I believe we have a lot of talent on this team this season, but the key will be for us to come together in a short period of time,” Seigle said. “Competition in practice has been high, and we expect to turn some heads this year with our ability to attack with numbers. I am also pleased with our training camp has been going. We are working hard every day in hopes of improving a little bit each and every day.”

Returning players on the men’s team include Sebastian Delfin Besores, Veracruz, Mexico; Michael Bosiljevac, Omaha; Josh Crim, Holmesville; Daniel Isaza, Bogota, Colombia; Cameron Krueger, Norfolk; Andrew Marsh, Omaha; and Aaron Wilken, Norfolk.

Incoming players on the Hawks’ roster include Cutter Anderson, Norfolk; Hunter Bergman, Neligh; Nate Broders, Norfolk; Anthony Cayax, Grand Island; Tiago Cunha da Costa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Cale Frahm, Norfolk; Victor Luis Galterio, Pedreira, Brazil; Nickolas Gamma, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Trent Jorgensen, Norfolk; Anthony Kosch, Columbus; Arthur Mariano Lopez, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Lagrezio Melo, Brasilia, Brazil; Francisco Nuno, Wakefield; Bernardo Ribeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Derek Riege, Nebraska City; Massimiliano Simonazzi, Reggio Emilia, Italy; and Quinn Stahr, Lincoln/Omaha.

Nathan Brokemeier will serve as assistant coach.

Miller, women’s soccer coach, said he has seen promising things as the six returning sophomores work with the team’s fourteen new recruits.

“I feel bringing them in with the combination of the talent and experience of our returning sophomores is a great field of talent. With the new recruits coming in, it gives us a lot more depth at multiple positions than we had one year ago. I feel optimistic about this season, but with the strength of our conference, I know it will take a lot more to win those big games.”

Returning players on the Hawks women’s soccer team are Valentina Haboush, Montevideo, Uruguay; Saige Hollum, Norfolk; Erika Kumm, Norfolk; Katie Martindale, Gering; Cassie Pickrel, York; and Madison Wendland, Council Bluffs, IA.

Incoming players the Hawks have added to their roster include Corinthiea Cordova-Keting, Norfolk; Hailey Curry, Elkhorn; Lindsey Epp, Omaha; Becca Folda, Schuyler; Ellie Gess, Papillion; Lauren Hirsch, Watertown, WI; Riley Johnson, Norfolk; Ryanne Lueders, Columbus; Lizzy McCalla, Canon City, CO; Tayler Ohu, Aurora, CO; Ashley Reskevicius, Ralston; Emily Simmons, Pierce; Paula Vanegas, Bogota, Colombia; and Alexis Wemhoff, Columbus.

Nathan Broekemeier, Jordan Miller and Catherine Suckstorf will serve as assistant coaches, and Ellery Butterfield is manager.

Men’s and women’s soccer open their seasons on Tuesday, August 22, when they face Barton Community College at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk. The women’s game will begin and 2 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 4 p.m.
