Illinois standout to play basketball at Northeast

NORFOLK - Northeast Community College’s latest women’s basketball recruit hails from Illinois. Teagan Pompa is a 5’8” guard who plays for South Elgin High School in Elgin, IL.

Pompa helped South Elgin High School win a conference championship in Class 8A, the largest athletic classification in Illinois. She earned All-Conference and All-Area honors and was also named the Buffalo Wild Wings Athlete of the Month in December 2016.

She averages 13 points per game and shoots nearly 50 percent from the three-point line.

Northeast Coach Matt Svehla said Pompa had a strong year at South Elgin High, a school with nearly 3,000 students.

“Teagan played for a good program, and she played against the best competition the state had to offer. She has demonstrated the ability to really shoot the three-pointer, but other parts of her game are good, too. She is very coachable and will be a great addition to our program.”

Pompa joins Jade Blackburn, Surrey, United Kingdom, Kori Fischer, South Sioux City, Lauren Hunstad, Parker, SD, and Baileigh Nuzum, Papillion, as the latest recruits to sign with the Hawks for the 2017-18 season.
