NORFOLK - A South Dakota high school standout has signed to play basketball at Northeast Community College this fall. Hawks Coach Matt Svehla said he has signed Lauren Hunstad, of Parker High School in Parker, SD, for 2017-18.

A 5’7” guard, Hunstad has recorded over 1,000 points in her career. She helped lead the Pheasants to the South Dakota state basketball tournament and was also selected for three all-star games, South Dakota All-State and the All-Conference First Team.

Hunstad averages 14 points and five rebounds per game. She also competes in track and was a South Dakota state high-jump qualifier.

“Lauren is a guard who can get to the basket but also shoot the three-pointer,” said Svehla. “She helped her high school team with ball handling responsibilities but also had some big nights scoring. Lauren’s high school team had great success this season, and she played a big role in that success. She will be a good addition to our guard depth, and she is a high-character person.”

Hunstad is joined by Jade Blackburn, Surrey, United Kingdom, Kori Fischer, South Sioux City, Bailey Nuzum, Papillion, and Tegan Pompa, Elgin, IL, as the Hawks’ newest signees.
