NORFOLK - The Northeast Community College softball team posted their second doubleheader sweep in a row after defeating Southeast Community College here Thursday. The Hawks won 8-0 in the first game and 25-7 in the second.

“It was a good two-game sweep for us today,” said Northeast Coach Iris Woodhead. “The girls came out game two ready to swing the bat and it showed. We were a little too relaxed in game one, and we were missing a sense of urgency. We brought that to game two and didn’t settle after our first big inning. I was pleased to see that.”

Teanne Edens (6-6) had the win in the first game, recording eight strikeouts and her second shutout of the season. She also batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Moriah Payton (2-7) was the winning pitcher in the second game with seven strikeouts.

Also for the Hawks in game two, Savannah Robertson went 4-for-6 with five RBIs, three runs and a double. Kianna Garza (3-for-5) had five RBIs and two runs; Edens (2-for-4), five RBIs and two runs; Alyson Romey (4-for-4), two RBIs, five runs, two doubles and a home run; Carlyee Arndt (4-for-4), four RBIs, four runs and three doubles.

Northeast (8-13) will return to action today when they travel to Columbus to face Central Community College in a doubleheader. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
