Brass ensemble to perform at Northeast

by amandab  1/18/2017 8:50:11 AM --  NORFOLK - The five-member ensemble “A Touch of Brass” will perform in concert on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College soon. The concert will be held on Sunday, January 29, at 2 p.m., in the Cox Activities Center Theatre.

The theme of the group’s 2017 concert tour is “Overtures and Arias.” Well-known selections chosen from “Aida,” “Rigoletto,” “La Boheme” and “Lohengrin” will be performed.

“A Touch of Brass” members include Josh Calkin, tuba. He is a Wayne State College (WSC) faculty member and a Vermont native with degrees from Boise State University and the University of Iowa. Randy Neuharth, trombone. He is the retired band director at Northeast Community College. Neuharth is a native of northern South Dakota with degrees from South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota (USD).

Gary Reeves, French horn. He is originally from Wisconsin with degrees from the University of Iowa. He has taught across the country at several locations, including Oregon State University. He is presently on the faculty of USD. Dave Bohnert, trumpet. He comes from Southeast Missouri with degrees from institutions in Cincinnati and Kansas City. Bohnert has been the director of bands at WSC for many years.

Keith Krueger, founder and director of A Touch of Brass, plays trumpet in the group which was formed in 1984. He is from Northeast Nebraska with a degree from Wayne State College. Krueger has taught public school music, and then performed with the United States Air Force bands for ten years. He is currently farming.

The concert is free and open to the public.
