Hawks golf wraps up action at Southeast Ryder Cup and Invitational

BEATRICE - The Northeast Community College men's golf team wrapped up the two-day Southeast Ryder Cup and Invitational here Tuesday, taking second in the Ryder Cup and third at the invitational.

In the Ryder Cup, held Monday at the York Country Club in York, Northeast played as two-man teams against the rest of the field. Preston Peters and Michael Brockhaus led the way with a 71 and tie for second. Stephen GrandPre and Dalton Lammers tied for fifth with a 74, while Tyler Lewis and Jamy McCoy fired a 76 to finish in eighth.

Northeast's total points were 17. The University of Nebraska Kearney had 10, and Southeast Community College scored 18.

On Tuesday at the Beatrice Country Club, the Hawks finished third in the eight-team invitational, shooting a 342. UNK took first with 308, and Southeast finished second with a 333.

UNK's Jay Cottam carded a 72 and took medalist honors. Max Rudder, also for UNK, took second with a 74, and Southeast's Kyle Murray finished third with a 77.

Brockhaus led the Hawks, finishing 10th for Northeast with an 82.  GrandPre and McCoy both fired an 85, while Peters and Lammers ended with 90 and 93, respectively.

Individually, Northeast's Lewis recorded a 79 to finish sixth overall.

Up next, Northeast travels to Ankeny, Iowa, for the Iowa Central Invite on Saturday and Sunday. Tee time for both days is 10 a.m.
