Northeast Students Bring Home Trophies from Lineman's Rodeo

(NORFOLK, Neb.) – Several Northeast Community College utility line students recently brought home several trophies after their successful participation in the 2010 Lineman’s Rodeo at Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, S.D.

 

The rodeo attracted 116 linemen on 29 teams from Metropolitan Community College, Omaha; Chandler Gilbert Community College, Gilbert, Ariz.; Linn State Technical College, Linn, MO.; Blackhawk Technical College, Janesville, Wis.; Chippewa Valley Technical College, Eau Claire, WI.; Bismarck State College, Bismarck, N.D.; Moraine Park Technical College, Beaver Dam, WI.; Western Nebraska Community College, Alliance, Northeast Community College, and Mitchell Technical Institute

Northeast student Sam Gnagy, Hastings, placed second overall while Brent Foxhoven, Fremont, finished fifth overall and Jared Beltz, Elgin, finished sixth overall. 

Northeast students Beltz, Foxhoven, Marc Pelster, Petersburg, and Jason Vaisvilas, Elgin, finished first in cross-arm change out, first in framing, and fourth in the obstacle climb on their way to a third-place overall finish.

A Northeast team of Lucus Gubbels, Foster, Heath Hammond, Randolph, Luke Blomendahl, Hooper, and Ethan Hoines, Trumbull, finished first in the knowledge test, third in the obstacle climb, and fourth in the cross-arm change out.

Another Northeast team of Tyler Gjerde, Avoca; Tyler Koehn, York; Garrett Hanefeldt, Creighton, and Gnagy finished fifth in the knowledge test and sixth in the C1 framing competition.

They were accompanied by Northeast Instructors Kyle Voecks and Kory Hildebrand.

Northeast Community College in Norfolk will host the event next year.
