Door to College (DTC) Scholarship Program

Scholarships

The Door to College Scholarship Program (DTC), provides financial assistance towards educational expenses of undergraduate students enrolled at Nebraska postsecondary institution who graduated from a Youth Rehabilitation and treatment Center (YRTC) high school or from an approved public, private, nondenominational, or parochial high school after being discharged from a YRTC.

Application

To be eligible for funding for the 2024-2025 academic year, you must complete the Door to College Scholarship application and submit the application to the financial aid office. Applications will be accepted any time during the award year but may not be made retroactive to the end of the enrollment period for with the funds are requested, e.g. a student may not apply for a scholarship for the fall term after the term has concluded.

Eligibility Requirements for undergraduate students

  • Must apply for Admissions.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizens or have legal status in the United States. DACA students or students without legal status are not eligible to apply.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited education program at a YRTC with compliance with state law or from approved accredited public, private, denominational, or parochial school after absolution at a YRTC in compliance with state law.
  • Must be a Nebraska resident.
  • Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year.
  • Must be enrolled or intend to enroll in at least six credit hours. (Funds awarded at less than full-time status, will be prorated to the number of credits enrolled per term)
  • Must authorize the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to verify for the Commission the candidates name and previous status at a YRTC.
  • Must comply with all other provisions of the Door to College Scholarship Act. This includes all rules, regulations, and guidelines adopted by this act.

Awards

The Nebraska Coordinating Commission will notify Northeast of award amounts, based on institutional recommendations, within 30 days of receiving the recommendation. The maximum annual award for full-time students is $5000.00 Awards for part-time students will be prorated.

Scholarship recipients must meet all the qualifications of the scholarship at the time of selection and maintain academic progress consistent with Northeast's Financial Aid Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress policy throughout the life of the scholarship.

Award recipients must agree to the following:

  • Attend all required courses regularly.
  • Meet with an assigned advisor at regular intervals to discuss academic progress and to develop a job search plan.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Use the award only for eligible education expenses.
  • In case of withdrawal, remit any award balance allowable under their eligible institution’s withdrawal policy back to their eligible institution.
  • Authorize their eligible institution to release to the Commission educational records necessary to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Door to College Scholarship Act, including but not limited to federal financial aid eligibility, enrollment status, credit hours attempted and completed, cumulative credit hours, and graduation status.
